Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
I think this is a powerful quote in its own right, but even more powerful when applied to our faith. Imagine it read this way, "The ultimate measure of your faith is not where it stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where it stands in times of challenge and controversy."
Is your faith strong enough to withstand difficult times? When is your faith the strongest and when do you find your faith waning the most?
I’d say my faith is strongest when I’m weakest. “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV. It’s in my pain, my weariness, my lack of hope where I find strength. When I’m without any other aid or crutch to lean on, I’m left with the decision to look up to God or look around or within for the will to press on. Clearly, the scriptures instruct us to look up.
